AP Finally Sees The Carbon Credit Scam

ungore

The world is slowly awakening from its Kool-Aid induced coma, and more people are realizing the scam that Al Gore and the U N are pulling with this carbon credit scheme. Even the mainstream media is picking up on the truth. If the Associated Press will print this, maybe there is hope for us after all.

XIAOXI, China – The hydroelectric dam, a low wall of concrete slicing across an old farming valley, is supposed to help a power company in distant Germany contribute to saving the climate — while putting lucrative “carbon credits” into the pockets of Chinese developers.

But in the end the new Xiaoxi dam may do nothing to lower global-warming emissions as advertised. And many of the 7,500 people displaced by the project still seethe over losing their homes and farmland.

“Nobody asked if we wanted to move,” said a 38-year-old man whose family lost a small brick house. “The government just posted a notice that said, ‘Your home will be demolished.'”

The dam will shortchange German consumers, Chinese villagers and the climate itself, if critics are right. And Xiaoxi is not alone.

Similar stories are repeated across China and elsewhere around the world, as hundreds of hydro projects line up for carbon credits, at a potential cost of billions to Europeans, Japanese and soon perhaps Americans, in a trading system a new U.S. government review concludes has “uncertain effects” on greenhouse-gas emissions.

One American expert is more blunt.

“The CDM” — the 4-year-old, U.N.-managed Clean Development Mechanism — “is an excessive subsidy that represents a massive waste of developed world resources,” says Stanford University’s Michael Wara.

Forced relocations have become common in China as people in hundreds of communities are moved to clear land for factories and other projects, provoking anger and occasionally violent protests. But what happened here is unusual in highlighting not just the human costs, but also the awkward fit between China’s authoritarian system, in which complaints of official abuse abound, and Western environmental ideals.

Those ideals produced the Clean Development Mechanism as a market-based tool under the Kyoto Protocol, the 1997 agreement to combat climate change. The CDM allows industrial nations, required by Kyoto to reduce emissions of gases blamed for global warming, to comply by paying developing nations to cut their emissions instead.

I’m hoping someday soon Al Gore will be prosecuted for the fraud that he is. But I’m not holding my breath, he’s been a fraud all his life.

Obama Gets Coveted UN Endorsement

I find this to be encouraging news for the elections. The United Nations is Overwhelmingly Enthusiastic over The One becoming POTUS. I do believe they also wanted Al Gore and John Kerry to win their elections.

UNITED NATIONS — There are no “Obama 2008” buttons, banners or T-shirts visible here at U.N. headquarters, but it might be difficult to find a sliver of territory in the United States more enthusiastic over the prospect of the Illinois senator winning the White House.

An informal survey of more than two dozen U.N. staff members and foreign delegates showed that the overwhelming majority would prefer that Sen. Barack Obama win the presidency, saying they think that the Democrat would usher in a new agenda of multilateralism after an era marked by Republican disdain for the world body.

Obama supporters hail from Russia, Canada, France, Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Indonesia and elsewhere. One American employee here seemed puzzled that he was being asked whether Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was even a consideration. “Obama was and is unstoppable,” the official said. “Please, God, let him win,” he added.

“It would be hard to find anybody, I think, at the U.N. who would not believe that Obama would be a considerable improvement over any other alternative,” said William H. Luers, executive director of the United Nations Association. “It’s been a bad eight years, and there is a lot of bad feeling over it.”

It falls right in line with some of his other endorsements. Hamas, Ahmadinejad, Castro, Chavez…

Yep,  The United Nations, and at least three of the top terrorists in the world, and the top terrorist orginization in the world endorse Barack Hussein Obama for POTUS. What a fine bunch of people he has behind him.

Not to mention his associations with some fine people right here in the United States. Ayers, Dohrn, Khalidi, Plfeger, Rezko, Wright….

With friends like those, there will be a lot of wailing and whining, not to mention riots in the streets, by the hysterical left come Nov. 5. Things are indeed looking good for McCain Palin, even with all the media bias and dirty deals by the Obama camp.

More encouraging news.

U.N. Questions Carbon Credits

It has got to be obvious now. Carbon Credits are a scam. If the United Nations is questioning the validity of companies selling feel good for real money, how big of a scam is it? After all, they thought nothing of the Oil For Food scam that lined so many pockets.

OXFORD, England — Marc Stuart and Pedro Moura Costa have become multimillionaires in a booming new market designed to fight global warming.

Now, their empire is under attack.

Their firm, United Kingdom-based EcoSecurities Ltd., helps companies in the industrialized world meet their obligations to pollute less by selling them “credits” that fund clean-air projects in poorer nations. Last year, some $9.4 billion in these credits were traded, up from almost none four years earlier.

The market’s anything-goes early days now appear to be ending. United Nations officials who regulate the trade have started questioning scores of proposed projects, from hydroelectric plants in China to wind farms in India. The issue: whether they provide real environmental gains, or are just padding the pockets of middlemen like EcoSecurities.

EcoSecurities is one of the main players in an international market that was created as part of the “Kyoto Protocol” to combat global warming. A key premise of the system is that, because greenhouse gases damage the atmosphere no matter where they originate, society should attack them first where the cleanup is cheapest, in the developing world. But policing that far-flung market has proved to be tricky because it involves valuing a commodity, climate-warming emissions of gas, that is far less tangible than oil or gold.

The “credits” sold by EcoSecurities and its rivals are supposed to fund clean-air projects in the developing world that otherwise wouldn’t get built. But the U.N. is worried that players in the market may be gaming the system by putting a green imprimatur on some projects that would have happened anyway, defeating the intent of the U.N. program.

So, maybe that’s part of the reason the Goracle is getting all wound up over a very tiny minority of people who don’t believe his snake oil sales pitch. Let’s hope the world is starting to wake up. If the U.N. can sense a problem, maybe there is hope.
