Polar Bear “Threatened” Yeah, Right….

Hey dude….can you believe they fell for it!?

They went and did it! Listed the polar bear as threatened when the population has never been higher. In Canada, where two thirds of the polar bears live, they know it’s NOT THREATENED. But evidently the lack of polar bears here in the lower 48 states tells our “experts” that they know better than the people who live with them. I warned you that this would happen. Politics And The Polar Bear. It’s unacceptable that our leaders cave to the Global Warming Cult and the Liberals like Barbara Boxer that have ulterior motives. Sen. James Inhofe has something to say about this.

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, today expressed disappointment with the U.S. Department of Interior’s final decision to list the polar bear as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act.

“Unfortunately, the decision to list the polar bear as ‘threatened’ appears to be based more on politics than science,” Senator Inhofe said. “With the number of polar bears substantially up over the past forty years, the decision announced today appears to be based entirely on unproven computer models. The decision, therefore, is simply a case of reality versus unproven computer models, the methodology of which has been challenged by many scientists and forecasting experts. If the models are invalid, then the decision based on them is not justified. It’s disappointing that Secretary Kempthorne failed to stand up to liberal special interest groups who advocated this listing.

“Lost in the debate is the fact that polar bear numbers have dramatically increased over the past forty years – a fact even liberal environmental activists are forced to concede. According to Canadian scientists, 11 of the 13 bear populations are stable, with some increasing. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service now estimates that there are currently 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears. These numbers are substantially up from lows estimates in the range of 5,000-10,000 in the 1950s and 1960s. Credit should be given to protection already provided the polar bear by way of the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the several international conservation treaties including the 1973 Agreement on the Conservation of Polar Bears and the U.S.-Russia Polar Bear Conservation and Management Act of 2006, as well as conservation, education, and outreach agreement with native peoples.

“Today’s decision will have far reaching consequences. Liberal special interests have employed hundreds of lawyers to try and convert current environmental laws such as the Endangered Species Act into climate laws. Yet the ESA is simply not equipped to regulate economy-wide greenhouse gases, nor does the Fish and Wildlife Service have the expertise to be a pollution control agency. The regulatory tools of the ESA function best when at-risk species are faced with local, tangible threats. Greenhouse gas emissions are not local. The implications of today’s decision, therefore, will undoubtedly lead to a drastic increase in litigation and eager lawyers ready to use this listing to do exactly what they have intended to do all along – shut down energy production.”

I’m going to shut up now, before I say something here that won’t be G rated. Michelle Malkin has much more HERE.

  1. I think polar bears should be regularly threatened.

  2. Hey Swamps, did you see the picture I’ve added?

  3. And as far as threatened, we, the American public are the ones being threatened!

  4. We must provide Polar Bears new habitats for their hunting; Boxer’s San Francisco neighborhood would be a good place to start with a dozen or so.

  5. Great idea Mike! I’d move to frisco to live with the polar bears, rather than the scum that reside there now. it’s a beautiful city, minus the people.

  6. I just want to know whether polar bear tastes like chicken.

  7. /Gotta fry up something else when bird flu hits.

  8. Of course it does silly…..everything tastes like chicken. 🙂

  9. How are the crops doing out in California? Corn (reportedly) isn’t doing so well in the grain belt….weather has been too wet and too cold, delaying planting and emergence.

  10. The only thing I’ve really heard about here is the wine grapes. Seems as though the frost may have damaged some crops, but others have spared. Oh! I heard the Almond crop is supposed to be great this year. California crops are always the same, it just depends who needs the free money from the government as to how bad the crops have been damaged. It’s all a political game, the weather hasn’t changed here in eons.

On the other hand, the folks in the midwest do have some wicked weather from time to time. 😉

  11. So is it better to not protect species? Just kill more of them for “sport”? Even if the population is rising?

  12. Huh?

  13. Well if the population is rising, it sure as hell does not need our protection!

  14. And Swamps, it really doesn’t taste like chicken. It tastes like you rubbed a gamey piece meat around a vat of lard, very greasy and a bad aftertaste. I prefer beef, bison is good if cooked right, elk is better, but NEVER pass up the opportunity to have a moose steak.

  15. And BTW criticaldemocracy, there are limits on hunting the polar bear anyway. And I don’t agree with “sport hunting” anything. If you’re not going to eat it, or if it’s not a menace to anything, it doesn’t need to be killed, in my opinion.

  16. Well, polar bears are definitely a menace to humans. If there are so many that they are menacing villages, they need to be made into rugs.

  17. I hear those rugs may cause increased human population in some circumstances. Now that can’t be a good thing. 😉

  18. Causing a further threat to polar bears!

    /Their own fault.

  23. Is it possible to expose a list of names of the people of the U.S. Department of Interior?….To show the American Public that these people on this board…Clearly need to be removed…Its quite obvious that they are under the influence of some kind of liberal agenda….I think exposing the names of these people and a continued pressure will change things either by removing them from their current position or making them think in realistic terms.

  24. I’m afraid more of the same would just fill the void. In my opinion, we need more of THIS.

  25. criticaldemocracy says this….”So is it better to not protect species? Just kill more of them for “sport”? Even if the population is rising?”….Can someone tell Criticaldemocracy that hunting polarbears has never been a sport nor is it allowed in the state of Alaska….And also that the polarbear doesnt need to be protected by a virtual law…Polarbears are naturally protected by their enviorment…If you have noticed theres not alot of people who live in the 66º, 30’N latitude witch is also known as the artic…and the few who do live their…Probably dont hunt polarbears for sport…As a matter of fact….can someone post me a link to polarbear hunting? and some pics to prove it?….If you can find any.
